Metal rolling is nothing but a process in which a metal stock is passed through a number of rolls to make it uniform. This technique is generally used in many of the manufacturing or metalworking industries in the deformation process. Click here to get more knowledge.
How the Rolling Process Works
Extensive pressure is applied to a metal when it is passed through rolls. This results in reducing the thickness of the metal. This technique can also be used for mandrel bends in Perth. The metal piece in question experiences both horizontal and vertical stresses. The value that is used to measure the thickness of the metal before and after the rolling process is termed as draft.
Along with reducing the metal thickness for mandrel bending, these rolls cause material feeding as they continuously rotate in the opposite direction. Ensure that there is proper lubrication involved in the process since there is a lot of friction involved. Rolling can be done in two ways:
Hot rolling is when the mechanical deformation of the metal is higher than the re-crystallization temperature. Cold rolling on the other hand can help to eliminate errors during shrinkage which in turn results in compact and accuracy metal.
The different types of metal rolling process are as follows:
Roll Bending – This is used for producing cylindrical shaped products
Flat Rolling – This is used for producing rectangular shape for the metals
Foil Rolling – As the name suggests, this is used for producing foils
Structural Shape Rolling – Also known as profile or shape rolling and is used to deform or bend metals to desired shape
Controlled Rolling – This method helps to integrates heat treating and control deformation of metals
Ring Rolling – This process is used to extend the diameter of the ring
Tandem Rolling – Here the rolling process is done in one go and can work both for hot and cold rolling types
Placing Orders for Metal Rolling Products
Ensure that you buy from suppliers that are licensed and offer good quality services to their customers. Many of the buyers would be willing to offer good discount rates for bulk orders. Bear in mind to enquire about the background of the supplier. If you are new to the business, then go for suppliers that offer smaller volumes. If you like their work, then you can always go back for more. A good and licensed company will meet the industry standards such as AWS and ASME.
Be patient while you await your order. It might take a few weeks for the supplier to ship the consignment to your address, especially if you have ordered from international locations.
